What this amendment would do
Mr. Bennet submitted SA 1295 to the concurrent resolution on the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025. Common sense tells us we need to keep our elected officials accountable when it comes to funding our safety, and this amendment is all about setting aside money responsibly without adding to the national debt.
What It Aims to Change or Add
-
Sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund in the budget resolution.
-
Gives the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget the power to revise budget allocations and adjustments.
-
Focuses these changes on national security and public safety.
-
Specifically aims at preventing the transfer of Department of Defense and Department of Justice resources away from their targeted efforts to protect our national security and public safety.
-
Requires that any legislation using this fund must not increase the deficit for the total periods of fiscal years 2025 through 2029 or fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
