What this amendment would do

Mr. Padilla submitted SA 1224 to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025. Plain and simple, its purpose is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund dedicated to protecting Tribal citizens from harassment, including harassment by immigration enforcement officers, keeping in mind the undisputed legal status of Tribal citizens.

  • The Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget is allowed to change committee allocations and make other adjustments for legislation relating to this protection.

  • The catch is that any legislation passed using this fund cannot increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
