What this amendment would do
Ms. Cortez Masto submitted this amendment to set up a new rule in the Senate. The main goal is to make sure our elected officials are held accountable by protecting the work our Federal law enforcement does every day.
What It Aims to Change
This amendment adds a new point of order to the Senate rules.
- It stops the Senate from considering any legislation that limits Federal law enforcement from doing their core mission of investigating drug trafficking and human trafficking in order to help with immigration enforcement.
- To bypass this rule, it requires a three-fifths vote of the Senators to waive it or to successfully appeal a ruling made by the Chair.
