What this amendment would do
Here is what you need to know about this amendment, submitted by Ms. Cortez Masto. If we want our elected officials to be accountable, we have to look at how government funding affects everyday operations. This amendment sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund.
Purpose and Changes
-
The amendment aims to add a new section to title III of the budget resolution.
-
It allows the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to adjust budget levels and the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to employment-based visa processing.
-
This includes the ability to study staff reductions at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the impact those reductions will have on processing times for employment-based visas.
-
Any legislation that uses this fund must not increase the federal deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
