What this amendment would do
MS. CORTEZ MASTO submitted amendment numbered SA 1175. The purpose of this amendment is to add a new section to title IV of the concurrent resolution setting forth the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and setting forth the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
The amendment aims to change the rules in the Senate by creating a point of order against funding immigration enforcement actions at churches or other houses of worship. Under this amendment, it will not be in order in the Senate to consider any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that funds these specific actions.
- The point of order can only be waived or suspended in the Senate by an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members, duly chosen and sworn.
- An affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members of the Senate, duly chosen and sworn, is also required to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair on a point of order raised under this section.
