What this amendment would do
This amendment was submitted by Ms. Cortez Masto. Its purpose is to hold our officials accountable by adding a specific rule to the Senate.
What the Amendment Changes
-
Adds a Point of Order: It creates a rule in the Senate that makes it out of order to consider legislation or reports that fund immigration enforcement actions if those actions would result in higher egg prices for everyday American consumers.
-
Voting Requirements: The new rule can only be waived or suspended in the Senate by a three-fifths vote of the members, and a three-fifths vote is also required to sustain an appeal of the Chair's ruling on this point of order.
