What this amendment would do
Mr. Padilla submitted amendment SA 1119 to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025. Plain and simple, we need to keep our elected officials accountable when it comes to the promises made to our communities, and this amendment is all about protecting Native American health care.
What It Aims to Change
This amendment adds a new rule to the Senate budget process. Here is what it actually does:
- It creates a point of order in the Senate against budget reconciliation legislation that includes cuts to, or policies leading to interruptions in, Tribal health care coverage or services.
- It requires a three-fifths vote of the Senate to waive or suspend this rule.
- It requires a three-fifths vote of the Senate to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair on this point of order.
