What this amendment would do
Mr. Padilla submitted SA 1112 to the concurrent resolution on the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025 and levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034. As folks who vote for our officials, we need to keep a close eye on how they handle our public lands and federal funds.
What It Aims to Change or Add
This amendment adds a deficit-neutral reserve fund at the end of title III of the budget resolution. Here is what it allows the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to do:
- Revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution.
- Make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to preserving the development of and access to units of the National Park System and public lands.
The text explicitly notes that this legislation may include:
- Reversing unjustified employment terminations of Department of the Interior staff to ensure an enjoyable experience for recreational visitors.
- Ensuring the uninterrupted operation of water infrastructure.
- Ensuring the continuation of important energy projects.
These changes can only happen if the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
