What this amendment would do
Mr. Padilla submitted SA 1111 to the concurrent resolution setting forth the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and setting forth the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
The purpose of this amendment is to add a point of order against reconciliation legislation that would endanger the health and safety of United States consumers. It aims to add a rule to the Senate stating it shall not be in order to consider a reconciliation bill, resolution, amendment, conference report, or amendment between the Houses that would endanger consumer health and safety by resulting in the unjust removal of Federal employees involved in critical food safety programs.
- The point of order can be waived or suspended in the Senate only by an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members, duly chosen and sworn.
- An affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members of the Senate, duly chosen and sworn, is required to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair on a point of order raised under this section.
