What this amendment would do
As folks working for you in Congress, we need to keep track of what our elected officials are trying to change. This amendment, numbered SA 1014 and put forward by Ms. Alsobrooks along with Ms. Cortez Masto and Mr. Kim, deals with our federal budget plans for the years 2025 through 2034.
What It Aims to Change
This proposal adds a new section to the budget resolution that creates a special deficit-neutral reserve fund. In plain English, it lets the Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee make adjustments to financial levels and rules for future legislation if that legislation focuses on reducing health care prices or preventing the repeal of provisions related to reforms to drug pricing, or stops increases in costs for American families.
The catch—and a good rule for the people's pocketbooks—is that any such legislation cannot increase the overall deficit during the total period from fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
