What this bill would do

This bill, known as the "Woke Endowment Security Tax Act of 2025," proposes an amendment to the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. It seeks to impose a 6 percent excise tax on the aggregate fair market value of assets held by certain large private colleges and universities. The tax applies to institutions with endowments of at least $11.9 billion, or $10.5 billion for those operating on behalf of a State. Religious institutions are excluded from this tax. The new rules would take effect for taxable years beginning after December 31, 2024.
