What this bill would do
This bill sets up a pilot program to encourage certain hospitals to buy domestic personal protective equipment and medical consumables. Under the program, participating hospitals must ensure that a specific percentage of their purchased protective gear and supplies are made in the United States. Hospitals that meet these purchasing rules will receive full reimbursement for the cost of those domestic items. Conversely, hospitals that fail to meet the domestic purchasing requirements after the third year of the program will face decreases in their federal reimbursement rates. Additionally, the legislation increases tariff duties on certain imported medical articles and provides tax credits for the domestic production and manufacturing of qualified personal protective equipment.
