What this bill would do
This bill, called the "Pharmaceutical Investment Oversight and Accountability Act," requires the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to report on foreign investment in the U.S. pharmaceutical industry. The FTC must work with the Secretary of the Treasury and provide these reports annually to specific congressional committees and health officials. These reports will assess pharmaceutical supply chains and the domestic capacity to produce drugs. The reports will also look at foreign investment regarding the storage and sequencing of DNA. Additionally, the FTC must include data on reviews and investigations of covered transactions from the previous 10 fiscal years. A summary of the report must be made available to the public on the FTC website.
