What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "COVID-19 Commuter Benefits Distribution Act," aims to allow for one-time distributions from certain transportation fringe benefit accounts. It specifies that these payments are made to the employee for whose benefit the account is maintained. The payment must be made during a 6-month period starting from the date the Act is enacted. There is a limit on the payment amount based on the highest balance held in the account between March 13, 2020, and December 31, 2023. Finally, these payments will be included in the employee's gross income for that taxable year.
