What this bill would do

The Hazardous Fuels Transportation Assistance Act of 2026 directs the Secretary of Agriculture to establish a competitive grant program. These grants are intended to incentivize the removal of material resulting from hazardous fuels management activities on National Forest System land. Eligible recipients include for-profit entities, nonprofits, States, local governments, Indian Tribes, and institutions of higher education. The program aims to assist with the transportation and processing of materials like wood and biomass to reduce wildfire risks. The Act provides for authorized appropriations of $25,000,000 for each fiscal year from 2027 through 2031.
