What this bill would do

This bill, known as the "Citizenship Documented License Act," seeks to amend the REAL ID Act of 2005. It requires new State-issued driver's licenses and identification cards to indicate whether the holder is a United States citizen to be acceptable for Federal recognition. Additionally, the bill establishes minimum requirements for State-issued commercial driver's licenses and non-domicile commercial driver's licenses. Federal agencies would be prohibited from accepting these commercial licenses unless the State verifies the holder is a U.S. national, a lawfully admitted permanent resident, or a specific type of nonimmigrant with a valid visa. These new standards would apply to licenses issued after a 60-day period following the Act's enactment.
