What this bill would do

This bill, known as the "Victims of Immigration Conduct Enforcement Act" or the "VOICE Act," seeks to create a civil remedy for individuals. It targets situations where a Federal law enforcement officer, or someone acting under their direction, violates an individual's constitutional rights during an immigration-related enforcement action. If the United States is found liable, the law mandates a $2,000,000 award in punitive damages. The bill also specifies that the Federal agency employing the officer is responsible for paying the monetary damages. This act amends title 28 of the United States Code to establish these new legal protections and liabilities.
