What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Veteran Access to Neurosurgery Act of 2026," directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to implement a pilot program. The program allows board-certified surgeons to negotiate market-based rate adjustments for neurosurgery services provided to veterans under the Veterans Community Care Program. This pilot is intended to occur in at least two Veterans Integrated Service Networks serving large numbers of veterans in rural or highly rural areas. To qualify for a rate adjustment, a provider must show the current rate is insufficient and that the veteran lacks access to such services within a 100-mile distance or a 60-day wait-time. The Secretary is also required to establish regulations and provide annual reports to Congress regarding the program's progress and costs.
