What this bill would do
This bill creates a congressional commission focused on renewing American civics education. The 8-member commission will review current civics programs, evaluate teacher training, and collect best practices. It must develop an age-appropriate civics curriculum and a national strategy document. These materials will be submitted to Congress, the Secretary of Education, and the Archivist of the United States. The Secretary of Education must then share the curriculum and strategy with all State educational agencies. Finally, the commission will receive $2,000,000 in appropriations and will shut down shortly after finishing its report.
