What this bill would do
The Unifying American Security Interests Act, or the UASI Act, aims to strengthen homeland security by changing how Urban Areas Security Initiative grants are awarded. It requires grant applicants to allocate at least 30 percent of their funds toward specific national priority areas. These priorities include cybersecurity, protecting soft targets, supporting task forces, election security, and border crisis response. Specifically, the bill mandates minimum spending amounts for election security and border enforcement activities. It also requires coordination with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for certain projects. These new requirements would apply to grants awarded for fiscal year 2027 and beyond.
