What this bill would do
This bill, known as the ``NATO Unity Protection Act,'' aims to limit how the United States uses its money regarding NATO members. It restricts Department of Defense funds from being used to blockade, occupy, annex, or conduct military operations against the sovereign territory of a NATO member state unless authorized by that state or the North Atlantic Council. Similarly, it restricts Department of State funds from being used to develop or implement such plans. The bill finds that unauthorized actions against a NATO ally could weaken the alliance and serve the interests of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China. However, it does not prevent the United States from defending itself or an ally from an armed attack or a credible threat of an imminent attack.
