What this bill would do
The Cargo Security Innovation Act requires the Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration to create a pilot project. This project aims to test how advanced law enforcement and cargo security technologies can combat cargo theft. The initiative will focus on cargo in transit and at or around intermodal transportation hubs and rail yards that experience high levels of theft. The Administrator will provide grants to eligible consortia to deploy and evaluate these technologies. Up to six specific pilot sites will be designated across different states. The project includes strict rules against using technology from foreign entities of concern.
