What this bill would do
The "Building Housing for the American Dream Act" aims to increase the supply of housing in the United States, including low-income options. It does this by amending the Immigration and Nationality Act to include housing projects alongside infrastructure projects for EB-5 visa petitions. The bill defines a housing project as investment in the production, preservation, or rehabilitation of rental housing or principal residences. It directs the government to prioritize applications for housing projects acquired through specific Federal assistance programs. Additionally, the Secretary of Homeland Security is given authority to consult with the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and hire staff for application reviews. The Act also requires annual reports to Congress and periodic reviews by the Government Accountability Office.
