What this bill would do
The "Emergency Relief for Hungry Families Act of 2025" amends the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008. It allows authorized retail food stores to offer incentives, such as discounting food, during a government shutdown. This applies when Department of Agriculture appropriations lapse and SNAP participants are not receiving full or any benefits. Stores can provide these incentives without needing a waiver. These discounts will not be considered violations of the equal treatment requirement.
