What this bill would do
This bill is called the Pay Our Capitol Police Act. It makes sure that officers, employees, and certain contractors of the Capitol Police get paid during the government shutdown that started on October 1, 2025. The money comes straight from the Treasury so these workers can continue to receive their standard pay, benefits, and allowances. This funding stops as soon as regular appropriations laws are passed for the Capitol Police or legislative branch, or by September 30, 2026, whichever happens first. The bill also applies retroactively back to September 30, 2025.

Potential Positive Impacts for People

Section 2(a)(1) ensures that officers and employees of the Capitol Police receive their standard rates of pay, allowances, pay differentials, benefits, and other regular payments during the government shutdown. This is positive because it makes sure these workers still get paid for their labor while the government is shut down.
-
Section 2(a)(2) provides payments to contractors of the Capitol Police who are determined by the Chief of the Capitol Police to be providing support to the officers and employees during the shutdown. This is positive because it helps ensure that supporting contractors do not go without pay during this time.
