What this bill would do
This bill is called the Innovative and Safe Hydrogen Transportation Act. It orders the Secretary of Transportation to finish a study within 18 months about using pipelines made with composite materials to safely transport hydrogen and hydrogen mixed with natural gas. The study has to look at available pipeline materials, existing tests and data, and recommended standards and authorizations. The bill requires public participation by holding meetings and letting the public comment on a draft of the study for at least 60 days. After the study and meetings are done, the Secretary must start a rulemaking process within 18 months to allow the use of composite materials for pipeline transportation of hydrogen and hydrogen blended with natural gas.
