What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Employee Ownership Financing Act," directs the Secretary of Labor to create the Office of Employee Ownership. This new office will manage the Employee Ownership Initiative and a new Employee Ownership Loan Program. The loan program is designed to provide loans or guarantees to help companies increase employee ownership or expand operations. Additionally, the bill requires employers facing a permanent plant closing to offer employees the chance to purchase the facility through an employee stock ownership plan or a worker-owned cooperative. Finally, it establishes an Advisory Council on Employee Ownership to provide guidance to the Secretary.
