What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Stop Anarchists From Endangering Cities Act" or the "SAFE Cities Act," directs the Attorney General to create and maintain a list of "anarchist jurisdictions." An anarchist jurisdiction is defined as a State or local government that fails to take reasonable steps to stop violence and property destruction. The Attorney General must publish the initial list within 14 days of enactment and update it at least every 180 days. The identification process involves consulting with the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Director of the Office of Management and Budget. Additionally, the bill instructs the Director of the OMB to issue guidance to Federal agencies regarding restricting or disfavoring these jurisdictions from receiving Federal grants.
