What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "No War Against Iran Act," aims to prohibit the use of federal funds for military force in or against Iran. It establishes that no funds may be used for such purposes unless Congress declares war or passes a specific statutory authorization that meets War Powers Resolution requirements. The act clarifies that previous laws do not provide authorization for military action against Iran. There is an exception for military force consistent with the War Powers Resolution. Additionally, the President may still use necessary force to defend allies and partners if Congress provides specific statutory authorization.
