What this bill would do
The "Pay Our Correctional Officers Fairly Act" aims to amend title 5 of the United States Code regarding pay for Bureau of Prisons employees. It seeks to increase locality pay rates for employees currently assigned to the "Rest of U.S." pay locality. The bill directs that these employees' worksites be considered located in the nearest other pay locality instead. This change applies specifically to those within 200 miles of another pay locality boundary. The new pay rates are intended to match higher wage schedules found in nearby areas. These adjustments are set to take effect 180 days after the Act is enacted.
