What this bill would do

The Taiwan PLUS Act aims to improve defense cooperation between the United States and Taiwan. It proposes designating Taiwan as a member of the "NATO Plus" community of states. For a five-year period, Taiwan would be treated as a specific type of country under various provisions of the Arms Export Control Act. The Secretary of State has the authority to extend this arrangement for additional five-year periods. This extension requires a determination that it serves United States national security interests.
