What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Michael Enzi Voluntary Protection Program Act," authorizes a program for the Department of Labor to recognize employers who commit to comprehensive safety and health management systems. The program encourages excellence in protecting employees from occupational hazards through specific requirements like hazard assessment, prevention programs, and employee training. Participating employers must submit applications, perform annual self-evaluations, and undergo onsite evaluations by the Secretary of Labor's representatives. Approved worksites are exempt from programmed inspections while participating in the program. Additionally, the Act directs the modernization of technology used to administer the program and includes a tiered safety challenge program.
