What this bill would do
This bill is known as the School Guardian Act of 2025. It directs the Attorney General to provide block grants to states for assigning armed law enforcement officers to elementary and secondary schools. States can use these funds to cover the cost of pay, training, and equipment for the officers. The chief law enforcement agency of a state will administer these grants and can award subgrants to local government law enforcement agencies. Local agencies must enter into written agreements with schools or local educational agencies to hire at least one full-time law enforcement officer for each school. The bill transfers $80,000,000,000 from unobligated balances of amounts made available to the Internal Revenue Service to fund these grants from fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
