What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "CAMPUS Act," seeks to prohibit various federal funds from going to entities that support the People's Liberation Army. It requires the Director of National Intelligence to identify higher education institutions in the People's Republic of China involved in military-civil fusion. The Act restricts Department of Defense research funds and limits the ability of certain facilities to host or store classified information. It also allows for the denial of visas to students or employees of identified institutions. Additionally, it limits funds for K-12 schools that maintain contracts with entities in the People's Republic of China and lowers the threshold for disclosing foreign gifts. Finally, it encourages partnerships with Taiwan to expand Mandarin language and cultural programming.
