What this bill would do

H.R. 9622, known as the Modernizing Aeronautical Standards Act, requires the Administrator of NASA to conduct a study on the modernization of aeronautical standards. This study must be done in consultation with the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and relevant academic, industry, nonprofit, or standards organizations. The study, designated as the "Modernization of Aeronautical Standards and Aircraft Performance Study," includes various assessments of current and past atmospheric conditions, future trends, and impacts on commercial aircraft costs and performance. It also looks at required infrastructure investments at airports, design modifications for future aircraft, and design requirements for federal government aircraft. Finally, NASA may transmit the results of the study to specific congressional committees not later than 18 months after the enactment of the Act.
