What this bill would do
This bill, called the "Less Bureaucracy, Better International Education Oversight Act," moves certain education programs from the Department of Education to the Department of State. Specifically, it transfers the Fulbright-Hays scholarships and fellowships and the international education and foreign language programs under Title VI of the Higher Education Act. The bill also repeals the Institute for International Public Policy. It ensures that existing contracts, legal proceedings, and funds are transferred to the Secretary of State. The Director of the Office of Management and Budget is tasked with managing the personnel and functional transfers.
