What this bill would do
This bill is known as the CANADA Act or the Combating Attacks on our National Alcoholic Drinks by Allies Act. It directs the United States Trade Representative to start investigations into whether certain foreign countries, including Canada, have stopped importing and distributing United States alcoholic beverage exports in a way that allows for action under section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. The Trade Representative must consult with affected United States manufacturers, government officials, trade associations, and domestic producers before making decisions. The bill also requires the Trade Representative to submit an initial report, quarterly reports, and a public summary to the appropriate committees of Congress.
