What this bill would do
The Cloud Security Act creates exceptions for notifications to the U.S. Government regarding specified foreign entities. It allows providers to disclose certain communications and customer records to the Secretary of Commerce or designated officials. These disclosures must be made in good faith and relate to the use of a covered cloud product by a specified foreign entity or its representatives. The purpose is to comply with the Export Control Reform Act of 2018. Disclosures are limited to information reasonably necessary for verification or reporting.
