This report must happen not later than 1 year after the enactment of the Act. The report must include analyses of internet access, necessary retrofitting, estimated costs, challenges, lessons learned, and an evaluation of a specific pilot program. Potential Positive Impacts for People
-
Section 2(b)(1) requires an analysis identifying which federally assisted housing has or lacks access to broadband service, broken down by location and demographics. This is positive because it gives the public and Congress a clear picture of who is currently left out.
-
Section 2(b)(3) analyzes the estimated costs and timeframe necessary for all federally assisted housing to have the capacity to support broadband service. This is helpful for holding officials accountable regarding how long fixes might take and what they might cost.
-
Section 3(a) directs the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to develop a plan for retrofitting federally assisted housing to support broadband service. This is a positive step toward eventually getting people connected to the internet.
Potential Negative Impacts for People
- The provided text does not contain any specific provisions that create negative consequences or burdens for individuals or groups of people.
