What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Advanced Transmission Technology to Reduce Rates Act," directs the Secretary of Energy to establish a public clearinghouse for advanced transmission technology. The clearinghouse will include project lists, financial assistance information, and various analyses regarding the effects and costs of these technologies. The Secretary may also provide technical assistance to electric utilities, transmission organizations, and State regulatory authorities. Additionally, the bill amends State Energy Conservation Plans to include programs that facilitate the deployment of advanced transmission technology. The Act also exempts certain funding actions for these technologies from being considered major Federal actions under NEPA. Finally, the Secretary of Energy must establish best practices for electric utilities to reduce wildfire ignition risks from the bulk-power system.
