What this bill would do
This bill is called the Southeastern Rail Technologies Mapping Act of 2026. It requires the Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration to study improving rail performance and integrating new rail power technologies in the southeastern United States. The study must identify suitable rail segments between Florida and Washington, DC for technologies like rail electrification, fuel cells, or batteries. It also requires the identification of any implementation challenges for these technologies. If these technologies cannot be implemented on a segment, the Administrator must explain why and recommend updates with estimated costs. Finally, a report describing the study results must be submitted to Congress within 18 months of enactment.
