What this bill would do

The Hong Kong Equal Treatment Act prohibits the United States Government from giving the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong any differential treatment compared to the People's Republic of China. It also requires the President to impose sanctions on foreign persons who undermine democracy and human rights in Hong Kong. These sanctions target individuals involved in coercing, arresting, or imprisoning people under the National Security Law. It also targets those involved in censorship, torture, or actions that threaten the autonomy of Hong Kong. The President is directed to block transactions and property of these identified persons within the United States.
