What this bill would do
This bill proposes to amend the Communications Act of 1934 regarding video programming. It seeks to establish a gender identity content descriptor for programming that depicts, discusses, or promotes gender identity, gender transition, transgender identity, or non-binary identity. The Commission would be required to determine if specific conditions regarding the TV Parental Guidelines are met within 90 days. If those conditions are not met, the Commission must create regulations for this content descriptor. These regulations would require distributors to transmit the descriptor with programming marketed to children, such as TV-Y, TV-Y7, or TV-G ratings. The goal is to allow these descriptors to work with parental-control technologies like the V-chip.
