What this bill would do

This bill is known as the Firearm Freedom Act of 2026. It was introduced in the House of Representatives on May 22, 2026, by Mr. Patronis along with three other representatives. The sole purpose of the legislation is to repeal the Hughes Amendment to the Firearm Owners' Protection Act. Specifically, Section 2 of the bill accomplishes this by striking subsection (o) of section 922 of title 18, United States Code. This subsection previously banned the possession or transfer of machineguns.
