What this bill would do
The Campaign Event Contract Integrity Act aims to prohibit specific individuals associated with political campaigns from trading political event contracts while they have access to important, nonpublic information. It prevents these individuals from sharing such information to help others trade on it or using others to hide their trades. Additionally, the bill requires political event trading platforms to implement safeguards to detect and prevent insider trading and market manipulation. These platforms must also require certain traders to disclose their campaign affiliations or access to confidential data. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is granted the authority to investigate violations and bring civil enforcement actions. Finally, the act establishes significant civil penalties for those who violate these rules.
