What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "STABLE DRC Act," authorizes the President to impose sanctions on foreign persons who violate or undermine the Washington Accords. These accords are a June 2025 peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. The bill aims to support these accords and end the conflict involving the M23 and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Sanctions can include blocking assets and making certain individuals ineligible to enter the United States. The authority to implement these sanctions is set to expire seven years after the act is passed.
