What this bill would do
This bill, titled the "Gas Prices Relief Act of 2026," aims to provide a gasoline tax holiday. It sets the tax rate for gasoline to zero starting from the date of enactment until January 1, 2027. Additionally, it stops the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Trust Fund financing rate from applying to that gasoline. To prevent funding shortages, the Secretary of the Treasury will transfer money from the general fund to the Highway Trust Fund and the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Trust Fund. Congress intends for these tax reductions to result in lower fuel prices for consumers.
