What this bill would do
The Homegrown Defense Act of 2026 aims to improve oversight regarding how the Department of Defense complies with requirements for domestic food supply chains. Under this bill, the Inspector General of the Department of Defense must conduct an initial audit within 90 days of the Act's enactment. Following that first audit, the Inspector General is required to conduct audits on a quarterly basis. These audits are intended to determine the extent of compliance with specific procurement requirements found in section 4862 of title 10, United States Code. Finally, the Inspector General must submit a report containing the audit results to the House and Senate Committees on Armed Services within 60 days of each audit's conclusion.
