This bill, known as the "PROTECT Act," directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to provide specific guidance. The Secretary must share best practices regarding the handling of personally identifiable information for various government and private sector workers. This guidance must be distributed to Federal, State, and local government agencies, as well as appropriate private sector entities. The dissemination must occur within one year of enactment and every four years thereafter. The guidance covers the handling of information for officers, officials, employees, and contractors.
