What this bill would do
The Native American Education Opportunity Act aims to expand educational opportunities for Native American children. It establishes a Tribal-based education savings account program where Tribes can receive funds to award grants to eligible students. These funds can be used for various educational needs, including private tutoring, school costs, and higher education. The bill also authorizes the Bureau of Indian Education to approve and fund Bureau-funded charter schools. Additionally, Tribes are permitted to use existing Bureau facilities for these charter schools. The Act includes a requirement for a GAO study to review program implementation after three years.
